FAQs - Frequently Asked Questions
about the Master Program M.Sc. Business Administration
Top 5 most asked questions
As a rule of thumb, at least half of the ECTS credits earned in your Bachelor's degree should be from the field of Business Administration. In addition, you need at least 20 ECTS credits from economics and/or maths and/or statistics modules.
We will review your Transcript of records and the module descriptions once we have received your application. Unfortunately we cannot make a binding decision in advance on whether we consider your program related.
The 20 ECTS must be part of your completed Business Administration studies. They cannot be obtained from additional courses at other universities and cannot be made up for during the Master's program.
If you “earn” some of the 20 ECTS only after the application deadline, please upload your current grade sheet and your study plan - then we can see that this module is still to be completed.
In order to fulfill the minimum requirement of 20 ECTS in the above-mentioned study modules, these should be as similar as possible to the economics, mathematics or statistics modules of our Bachelor in Business Administration.
Accounting / cost and performance accounting, bookkeeping, financing, investment or taxes are not counted towards this requirement.
Relevant topics in (business) mathematics include (but are not limited to) linear algebra, differential and integral calculus.
Alternative module titles for statistics could include: Stochastics, Quantitative Methods, Empirical Research.
Alternative module titles for economics include micro- & macroeconomics, possibly also foreign trade.
If your module titles are not clear or if you are not sure about their eligibility, please upload your module descriptions with your application.
If you only have 180 credit points from your bachelor's degree, you must successfully make up/prove the missing 30 credit points within 12 months of starting your master's degree. (applies from the start of the study program in winter semester 2024/25)
You can have the missing 30 credit points recognized either by providing evidence of practical experience or by having additional study achievements recognized.
Practical periods such as internships or working student positions during or after your bachelor's degree as well as during your master's degree can be credited if certain conditions are met.
After successful enrollment, you must submit a request to the examination office. An examination/confirmation before enrollment is not possible.
If you have not finished your bachelor’s degree, but will do so before Mid-October, you still have the opportunity to apply.
If you are in a non-German Bachelor program, please send your transcript of records to uni-assist while applying for the VPD.
If you are in a German bachelor program, just upload your (unfinished) transcript of records during your application in the HM portal.

You can use online grade converters for an initial (non-binding) evaluation.
If you think that you fulfill all requirements, please send your documents to uni-assist by the end of March. They will convert your grades and issue a preliminary documentation (VPD).
Unfortunately, there is no possibility to avoid this regulation. Your Bachelor's certificate (or transcript of records) needs to demonstrate at least a grade of 2.59 or better (according to the German grade system).
In general, 1 ECTS credit point equals 30 working hours. If your Bachelor's degree was awarded on the basis of a different credit system, please provide us with the general conversion formula of your former university at the time of your application.
If your degree programme does not have ECTS (European Credit Transfer System), your previous achievements will be converted by us. To do this, we compare your workload (credit points, semester hours, etc.) with our ECTS system:
- 1. We calculate your workload per semester based on the number of credit points (CP)/hours and the total number of semesters you need to complete.
Example: 140 CP in 7 semesters = 140/7 = 20 CP/semester - 2. We equate this with our ECTS system (210 ECTS/7 semesters = 30 ECTS per semester).
Example: 30 ECTS/20 CP --> 1.5 ECTS = 1CP - 3. We translate your modules/courses into ECTS and check whether you meet the admission requirements.
Example: Your module "Linear Algebra" with 3 CP thus corresponds to 5 ECTS: 3 CP * 2 = 6 ECTS
You do not need to convert your credit points yourself, this is done by the Master Admissions Office. Please note that you must apply via uni-assist if you have completed your bachelor's degree outside Germany. This also applies if you have received ECTS in your bachelor's programme.
No, you need to have a valid GMAT score, if your Bachelor is from a country outside the European Union. It is a mandatory requirement.
If you only have 180 credit points from your bachelor's degree, you must successfully make up/prove the missing 30 credit points within 12 months of starting your master's degree. (applies from the start of the study program in winter semester 2024/25)

Language skills
No, students of the Digital Technology Management specialization do not need German skills, as the course is entirely taught in English. However, we encourage international students to participate in the offered German language classes during their time at Munich University of Applied Sciences.
If you choose another specialization than Digital Technology Management: Non-Germans with a foreign Bachelor degree need to have proof of good knowledge of German (at least B2 level), as the other specializations are mostly taught in German. You can find more information on recognized language exams here.
Yes, foreign students with few or no German language skills have the opportunity to participate in intensive German language classes (free of cost) that will help them to acquire a solid level of German during their studies. For more information please take a look at the "Department of General and Interdisciplinary Studies”.
No, you do not have to prove them, but you need to have at least B2 level of English in order to follow lectures, write exams or hold presentations.
Application via uni-assist (for foreign degrees)
Uni-assist e.V. is an institution supported by more than 180 universities in Germany for the preliminary examination of international student applications. It checks foreign degrees and converts the final grade into the German grading system. Only after this check can it be assessed whether a foreign degree meets the requirements.
After selecting our "Betriebswirtschaft" (Business Administration) Master program on the uni-assist website, please submit the following documents there:
- Scan of your original bachelor degree certificate including Diploma Supplement (in case you have not yet received it, your Transcript of Records is sufficient)
- Scan of your Transcript of Records
- Certified translations of the above if certificates are issued in another language than German or English (see requirements for translations)
- Copy of your passport
Please apply to uni-assist with the required documents by March 31 at the latest, as the preliminary examination takes at least 6-8 weeks.
Uni-assist will send a preliminary documentation (VPD) to you, which (along with all other documents) you need to submit to Munich University of Applied Sciences by the application deadline (May 31).

Our program's title is sometimes not translated, so you’d have to search for the German title Betriebswirtschaft (Master) at the Hochschule München University of Applied Sciences. It is not possible to search for "Digital Technology Management" - that is the specialisation that you'll select later on in the application process.
