Your master's thesis is the main focus of the third semester. Here you will find all the information and key documents relating to your master’s thesis.
Step by step towards your master’s thesis
Do you already have an idea? If so, speak to the lecturers in your field of study to see if they can supervise your thesis and help you further develop the topic.

The topic of the master's thesis can be assigned earliest after the date of the grade announcement for the second semester. The prerequisite is the acquisition of at least 50 credit points. The Master's thesis is then registered via PRIMUSS.
Instructions for registration and submission of theses in PRIMUSS
The structure, formal design and language of the thesis must be agreed with the first supervisor. There is a standard cover sheet, declaration & confidential clause (see “Important documents”), but no template for the content part.
Please note that only the current German version of the study and examination regulations is legally binding. The following information is intended to provide an initial overview.
The completion period is five months. Upon the student's request, the examination board may extend the completion period in justified exceptional cases, if the deadline cannot be met due to illness or other reasons for which the student is not responsible, in agreement with the supervisor. The extension should not exceed two months. Failure to meet the deadline will result in the assessment “insufficient / not passed”.
Requests for an extension of the completion period for the thesis must be submitted to the chair of the examination board at least two weeks before the specified deadline, stating the reasons. In the event of illness, Section 37 (5) sentences 4 to 6 (ASPO) apply accordingly.
Theses including the appendices belonging to the thesis (maximum two) must be submitted electronically as a PDF file in PRIMUSS.
For correction purposes, the first assessor may request a printed version of the thesis. If this is the case, this will be communicated in the overview in PRIMUSS and by e-mail.
The master's thesis and the master's colloquium are evaluated by two professors at HM, at least one of whom is responsible for teaching and examination duties in the relevant field of study at HM Business School.
Please note that only the current German version of the study and examination regulations is legally binding. The following information is intended to provide an initial overview.
If the master's thesis is assessed as “insufficient / not passed”, it can be repeated once with a new topic. The completion period for the repeated master's thesis begins no later than six months after the first assessment is announced. If students exceed the deadline in accordance with sentence 2, the examination is deemed to have been repeated and failed. Section 37 (5) (ASPO) applies accordingly to extensions of the deadline.
