The new University Development Plan, published in early 2023, incorporates sustainability for the first time as a cross-cutting theme across all areas of activity and sets out the HM’s sustainability strategy.

ÖKOPROFIT-Einsteiger 2023/24

The Ökoprofit project at the Pasing Campus, as an inter-faculty initiative, makes a significant contribution to this. The project is commissioned by HM Vice-President for Innovation and Quality in Education Klaus Kreulich and HM Chancellor Jörg Finger. Ökoprofit is a collaborative project between local authorities and local institutions and businesses, designed to support organisations in establishing an environmental management system. Ökoprofit was first launched in 2003 at the Department of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology. It has now been launched on the Pasing Campus as a pilot project for the wider HM.

At the kick-off event at the end of July 2023, 40 stakeholders from many different areas of the university were already involved, ranging from students and lecturers to staff members from sustainability and climate protection management, Facilities Management and other administrative departments. Around 65 people are now involved in achieving the Ökoprofit targets, thereby bringing to life a key objective of the sustainability strategy: greater collaboration between departments and faculties at the HM to embed sustainability.

The most ambitious goal of the Green Pasing Campus initiative is to achieve climate neutrality on the site by 2028, as well as a targeted reduction in resource consumption. Plans include major measures, such as connecting the campus to the district heating network and installing a photovoltaic system on the roofs of the buildings. They also include quick wins such as replacing fluorescent tubes with LED bulbs, using motion detectors, implementing more efficient waste sorting and recycling end-of-life IT equipment.

With a view to achievingcertification as an Ökoprofit organisation, initial measures had been implemented by the time the project concluded in September 2024, and the groundwork had been laid for the ongoing development of climate and environmental protection at HM.

ÖKOPROFIT Klubrunde 2025/2026

On 29 July 2025, the new round of the ÖKOPROFIT Club Munich 2025/2026 got underway, and the Green Pasing Campus team was there. Following our successful participation in the ÖKOPROFIT for Beginners programme in 2023/24 and our subsequent certification, we are continuing our commitment to environmental protection.

By joining the ÖKOPROFIT Club, we at Green Campus Pasing aim to further develop specific operational environmental measures and to continuously strengthen the sustainable focus of the Pasing Campus.

Acting as a bridge between academia, industry and society, the Green Pasing Campus team initiates a wide range of projects and continues to oversee their implementation even after the projects have concluded. In doing so, it not only implements environmental standards but also creates a platform for the exchange of ideas.
