Guidance on choosing your major subjects
Example: If you are in your 4th semester in the winter semester 2024/25 and have attained 75 ECTS by the time the publication of marks (including the examinations for the winter semester 2024/25) takes place, you may enrol on the major subjects in the summer semester 2025. Please take part in the selection process via PRIMUSS as normal.
Click here for the Moodle course on choosing your major subject.
Following the standard course of study, in the 5th and 6th semesters respectively, you will choose one of two major subjects from the current subject catalogue (3 modules each, worth 5 ECTS).
The course catalogue includes the following major subjects (please note that not all major subjects are offered in every semester):
Agile project management
Banking, Finance and Risk Management I + II
Management Accounting
Corporate Law and Leadership
Digital Transformation of Business
Purchasing and Procurement Management (not currently available)
Human Resource Management I – People Management
Human Resources II – Work Management
International Management I + II
Marketing Management I + II
Sustainability Management I + II
Accounting
Service Management
Taxation I + II
Supply Chain Innovation
Supply chain processes
Insurance management
There is no entitlement to have all modules offered for selection actually made available (see ASPO §6 (4)). Nor is there any entitlement to have such courses run if there are insufficient numbers of participants.
If you are hoping to undertake a practical semester but have not yet received confirmation of a placement or any certainty regarding your plans by the end of the selection period, and would like to take the major subject module as an alternative, please take part in the selection process via PRIMUSS. Should you then decide not to take the major subject module, please ensure that you resubmit your selection via PRIMUSS during the selection period so that you are included on the current lists.
If you are planning to spend a semester abroad, please DO NOT register for the major subject for the period during which you will be abroad.
If you wish to have your major subjects from abroad recognised, the major subject will be entered into Primuss upon your return following the submission of your application for recognition. To do this, you must send a message to the Examinations Office via Primuss at the time of submitting your application (i.e. after your return).
Please remember, even whilst you are studying abroad, to register in good time for your major subject for the following semester in Munich.
You can choose your major subject via PRIMUSS during the following periods and may change it once:
| for the summer semester | for the winter semester |
|---|---|
| Voting period: 15 December to 15 January. (Changes can be made until 6 April.) | Voting period: 30 May to 30 June (Changes can be made until 20 October.) |
The choice of major subjects is made online via PRIMUSS.
- In PRIMUSS, you will normally select your 1st OR 2nd major subject, which you would like to study in the following semester.
- If you have NOT yet chosen a major subject, please select your first major subject (as standard for the 5th semester) via ‘SSchwerpunktwahl Bachelor BWL 1. Schwerpunkt'.
- If you have already chosen your first major subject in a previous semester, please select your second major subject (normally for the 6th semester) via ‘Schwerpunktwahl Bachelor BWL: 2. Schwerpunkt’.
- ONLY if you have not yet chosen a major subject and are planning to take modules from both your 1st AND 2nd major subjects e.g. in the winter semester 2023/24 should you select your 1st major subject via “Schwerpunktwahl Bachelor BWL für das WiSe 2023/24: 1. Schwerpunkt”. AND select your second major subject via “Schwerpunktwahl Bachelor BWL für das WiSe 2023/24: 2. Schwerpunkt.”
- On the right-hand side, under ‘Studies under the old curriculum’, please remove everything (the credit transfer table is out of date and will no longer be updated in this form) and simply write: If you have any questions about your course timetable, please contact the Bachelor’s Office :
The major subject may be changed once.
Prerequisite: You must not have taken any exams in your current major subject yet.
Once the lottery/selection process has been completed and you wish to change your major subject again, we recommend the following procedure:
1. Contact the coordinator of the new preferred major subject by email and ask whether you can transfer to it (this information is helpful for all those involved – students, lecturers and the Examinations Office – to ensure clarity regarding the new, actual allocation of students to the major subject).
2. Contact the Examinations Office with the written reply (confirmation) from the coordinator and ask whether the change of major subject can be recorded on your overview of marks.
3. Please also inform the coordinators of the previously selected major subject of the change, so that they are also aware of the current situation.
If you have any other questions, please feel free to contact the Bachelor Office: Contact
There is no entitlement to have all modules offered for selection actually made available (see ASPO §6 (4)). Nor is there any entitlement to have such courses run if there are not enough participants.
You will be able to view the results of the election in PRIMUSS once the voting period has ended.
Your chosen major subject will be displayed on the overview of marks as soon as the examination results are available and you have achieved a sufficient number of credit points – please note that there may be a slight delay.
