"CONVERSION" of marks OR "Passed with distinction"
- You have the option of choosing whether you wish to recognise the converted GRADES (based on the modified Bavarian formula) or the subjects as ‘PASSED’. You must specify this in the Learning Agreement BEFORE YOUR STAY ABROAD: if no specification is made, the grades will be converted using the modified Bavarian formula.
Grades are converted in accordance with Section 5(5) of the ASPO:
"Students must specify in the application whether the examination results achieved at the foreign higher education institution are to be recognised on the basis of the mark obtained or the mark converted in accordance with paragraph 7, or, in accordance with Section 32(3), third sentence,as having been ‘successfully passed’; a subsequent change to this specification is not permitted."
CONVERSION:
"If the grading system used by foreign higher education institutions does not correspond to the German grading system, the marks awarded by the foreign higher education institution will be converted using the so-called modified Bavarian formula
x = 1 + 3
(Nmax – Nd)/(Nmax – Nmin)
converted using the target conversion mark x, the highest achievable mark Nmax, the lowest pass mark Nmin and the mark achieved Nd.
"Grades are calculated to one decimal place; any further decimal places are discarded without rounding."
